NOTES: 'At Christmas (God Became Like Us)':
After I travelling to England as a young man, I became an English teacher at Chalvedon Comprehensive School in Basildon, Essex. I encouraged the Year 7-8 students to write poetry and was amazed at what they produced. I later put some of the poems to music, including this one by Mandy Keeble. Some small changes and additions were made to the words to fit the music.

Nearly thirty years later, I recorded the song for inclusion on my 'How Far to Bethlehem?' CD. Unfortunately, by that time, I had lost all contact with the Mandy, but her lovely words live on.

lyrics

AT CHRISTMAS (God Became Like Us)
At Christmas in a lowly manger
When the mighty God became like us
At Christmas.

The shepherds came with their shining faces.
The angels sang all about God's graces.
Jesus was born in the world then.
Trailing a star came the wondering wise men.

A little lamb was given to him
With lovely and soft fluffy skin
At Christmas.

Mary was tired but her face was beaming.
She saw the star in the cold night gleaming.
Jesus was born in the world then.
Joseph was glad and the poor could smile again.

At Christmas in a lowly manger
When the mighty God became like us
At Christmas.
