NOTES on MY DAUGHTER MY SON
I dedicate this song always to my own daughter and son - Niamh and Jason - and to their mother Madge, my lovely wife.

The song was first sung at a Family Life Education Conference in Sydney. The lyrics were a kind of parallel to a reading for the Mass of that day - Acts 3: 1-10 - in which the apostle Peter heals a lame beggar at the 'beautiful gate' of the Temple in Jerusalem. When the beggar asks for money, Peter says, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." And the beggar does walk … and dance … and sing out his praise. Everyone is amazed.

I transposed this miracle into the relationship between parents and children … between us and our ‘Father-Mother God’.

I originally thought the song might be suitable for baptisms, but over the years I've heard of its use at many weddings and funerals too. Most touching was to hear from the mother of a child who had died. She told me this song had been sung at the funeral and still meant so much to her. Later, in a Melbourne concert, we sang it together. P.K.
