NOTES on 'Mother Mary':
In this song I try to portray Mary in her humanity, as she goes through various experiences - the annunciation, the stable room birth, becoming a refugee in Egypt with Joseph and her young child, watching her son grow up and go away into his public life, then witnessing his execution on Calvary. A key thought in the song is that the great heart, the compassionate heart of Jesus, was formed by his parents.
Mother Mary is one of twenty-one songs on my CD, 'Growing in God', available via a link further down this page.

lyrics
MOTHER MARY
Mother of Jesus, Mary loving with all your heart.
Great was the love you gave forming your son’s great heart.
Mother Mary, great was the life, great was the love you gave
Forming your son’s great heart.
Mother of courage, Mary, fear when the angel came.
Courage found deep within. Yes was the word you gave.
Mother Mary, you were the one - “Thy will be done”, you said
What would I want instead?
Mother of patience, Mary, stable room for his birth.
Refugees then in Egypt, wanderers on the Earth.
Mother Mary, watched your son grow, then watched him go away.
All you could do was wait.
Mother of justice, Mary, welcoming God’s good news.
Friend of the poor and lonely, no-one you would refuse.
Mother Mary had to be strong, carried so long your care.
Yours was a life to share.
Mother of sorrows, Mary, standing beside the Cross.
There as your son was dying, everything good seemed lost.
Mother Mary, his death you shared, how did you bear the cost
Standing beside the Cross?
Mother of Jesus, Mary, loving with all your heart.
Joseph was with you guiding, forming your son’s great heart.
Mother Mary, great was the life, great was the love you gave
Forming your son’s great heart.
Sharing your son’s great heart.
