'Televisionland' has been a favourite song for children in the hundreds of concerts I have done with primary school groups. In the workshop that precedes the concert I teach actions to go with the the various channels. It's great fun and the parents enjoy it too.
Though it is a fun song it has a 'message' too. In these times of binge-watching the song seems just as relevant though at least one channel could do with updating -. 'J.R. and Sue Ellen' for channel twelve the second time around..
lyrics
TELEVISIONLAND
Now listen while I tell you all of Televisionland
The only place where conversation's absolutely banned.
No picture's ever painted there, no book is ever read
'Cos they watch the Television every day until they're .. dead.
On Channel 1.. there's lots of fun. Channel 2.. but not for you.
Channel 3.. catastrophe. Channel 4.. what a bore.
It's funny when they ask you round for tea in TVland.
They never use a table, the food is mostly canned.
The folks are very friendly, they say: "How are you John?"
But they never hear your answer 'cos the Television's on.
It's Channel 5.. when you arrive. Channel 6.. some politics.
Channel 7.. what a lovely wedding.
Channel 8.. exterminate ..ate.. ate.. ate.. ate.. ate.. ate..
The children are a clever lot who live in Tellyland
They're experts on commercials, they test out every brand
They sing with all the jingles but don't know any songs
And they learn from Pokemon how to tell the right from wrong.
Channel 9.. to pass the time. Channel 10.. the tough men.
Channel 11.. is there telly in heaven? Channel 12.. how's your health?!
The latest thing in Tellyland's the house without a door
No windows for the people forget just what they're for.
I wonder if it's boring living in a box
But no-one will ever know now ‘cos no-one ever knocks.
Channel 1.. the day's begun. Channel 2.. it'll have to do.
Channel 3...It's Rugby League (AFL!). Channel 4.. another war.
Channel 5.. can you survive? Channel 6.. you getcha kicks man.
Channel 7.. the bikes are revvin'.
Channel 8.. it's love and hate. Channel 9.. to test your mind.
Channel 10.. you learn to spend.
Channel 11.. JR and Sue Ellen.
Channel 12.. watch yourself!
