about
Hopefully summarising the essential justice message and mission of Jesus. The lyrics are loosely based on Isaiah 61:1-2.
'The Year of God's Favour' refers to the Old Testament tradition of the Jubilee Year, a special year which was intended to restore balance to society. The vision of the Jubilee year set out for the community an ideal of justice and social equality. Occupied land was to be returned to its original owners. People in bondage, whether through debt or exploitation by others were to be set free. (See Leviticus 25: 8-17; 29-31).
This was the tradition that Jesus had in mind when at the start of his public life, he read the passage from Isaiah: "I come to bring good news to the poor, liberty to the captives.. to proclaim the year of God's favour.." (See Luke 4: 16-22).

lyrics
THE YEAR OF GOD’S FAVOUR
1. In the heart of the loser there’s a song.
See the stars slowly dancing through the sky
For the God of all Creation call us daughter and son
Now the year of God’s favour has begun.
2. To the poor in your struggle - good news at last.
To the rich - start your crying and learn to share.
To the dreamer - awaken and see what must be done
Now the year of God’s favour has begun.
3. In the mind of the prisoner, there’s a door
And the eyes that were blinded see the way.
Feel the toes of the cripple getting ready to run
Now the year of God’s favour has begun.
4. Songs of praise not of sorrow now be heard.
Twine a garland of flowers round the world.
After so much division, here’s a vision of one
Now the year of God’s favour has begun.
Now the year of God’s favour has begun.
