about

This is track two from my ‘Easter Carols’ CD. Of the thirteen tracks on the CD, seven are traditional songs, favourites of mine for many years, since I learned and adapted them from the Oxford Book of Carols.

Four of the songs on the CD are by the great English songwriter Sydney Carter. Carter’s best known song ‘Lord of the Dance’ is not on this CD but the four songs his that are on this CD are beautiful and thought provoking. The last two tracks are my own song ‘Ashes to Easter’ and ‘O Jesus Crucified’ by Richard Connelly and Australian poet James McAuley.

The whole 'Easter Carols' CD was intended to be simple and reflective - mostly just my voice and guitar with some backing vocals by a trio of female singers.

If you'd like to purchase the cd, a link to my online store is provided below.

lyrics

AND ALL IN THE MORNING

1. It was on Palm Sunday and all in the morning
The crowds they cheered as Our Lord came riding in.
And was not this a welcome for a King
As 'King Jesus!' they called him by his name.

2. It was on Holy Wednesday and all in the morning
That Judas betrayed our dear Heavenly King.
And was not this a terrible thing!
He kissed Jesus and called him by his name.

3. It was on Holy Thursday and all in the morning
They made a crown of thorns for him.
And was not this a terrible thing
As 'King Jesus', they mocked him by his name.

4. It was on Good Friday and all in the morning
They crucified our Saviour on Skull Hill.
The Earth shook and split and the sun was darkening
As Jesus, he took on all our shame.

5. It was on Easter Day and all in the morning
The Saviour arose, our great Heavenly King.
The sun and the moon, they did both arise with him
And it's 'Jesus' we call him by his name.
Yes it's 'Jesus' we call him by his name.
