'ALL THE WORLD IS SACRED' - FULL LYRICS & RELATED RESOURCES. See below.
*******
"Pope Francis has declared September 1st to be 'World Day of Prayer and Care of Creation'. 'All the World is Sacred' is very fitting song for this day". (Angela) The day is the first in the 'Season of Creation', ending on October 4th, feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Peter writes: I have sung 'All the World is Sacred' many times in concerts with school choirs. It sounds lovely as the children sing the interweaving parts. Then our voices come together on "wholly hallelujah". A favourite moment for me.
The choir heard on this recording includes adults as well as children. It's that kind of song - for no particular age.
Words such as 'creek' and 'gully' help to give the song an Australian identity. But I like to think that St. Francis of Assisi would happily sing along. Francis, so ahead of his time, wrote a wonderful 'Canticle of the Sun' - "Be praised my Lord for Brother Sun, for Sister Moon and all the Stars" ...and so on. Reverence, care and respect for the natural world are qualities still to be learned from him.
'Grey Gum Gully' - a signpost and location I've passed many times while driving north along the Pacific Highway on music tours to Brisbane and beyond.
** All the world is sacred in my eye? I like the singular 'eye'. As understood through the phrase - 'in my mind's eye'.
lyrics
ALL THE WORLD IS SACRED
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is good.
This world is holy.
This world is wholly hallelujah
Surely all the world is sacred in my eye.
Every tree, God's beauty dressed in green.
In the creeks and mountains God is seen.
In the grey gum gully
In seagulls soaring, thunder roaring
Surely all the world is sacred in my eye.
God creates all life, this world is good.
Earth is in our care and care we should.
Earth is in our care.
She is our Mother,
So be careful sister brother,
Surely all the world is sacred in my eye.
If we can just hear with hearts amazed
Every stone is singing songs of praise.
This world is holy.
This world is wholly hallelujah
Surely all the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is good.
This world is holy.
This world is wholly hallelujah
Surely all the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.
All the world is sacred in my eye.

COMMENTS:
"It is one of your songs which I use often in my personal prayer and when I am working with school staff groups on Creation themes".
"I have a special affinity with the earth and its sacredness and destruction. I work with children at a school and I would love to teach this to our choir".
"A finely crafted song with lovely backing vocals".
"What a beautiful song. I think we will use it during September in our Parish as part of the Season of Creation, September 1-October 4".
