PEACEMAKER
You could be kind when the world was cruel,
Stay in your peace when they called you a fool.
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
When I get mad, try as I might
It's so hard to talk, easy to fight.
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
INTERLUDE
Who put the scratch on my shiny new bike?
You tell me to love, but I don’t even like!
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
When you got hit, you turned your cheek;
If I did the same, they’d think I was weak.
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
INTERLUDE
Turn on the news, the world is at war;
Some of us rich, so many are poor.
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
You are the Lord and peace you declare.
You want us to love, you want us to share.
Jesus could you make of me a peacemaker.
INTERLUDE
Peacemaker. Peacemaker. Peacemaker

'Peacemaker' was one of five songs I wrote on a commission initiated by Fr. Caryl Grew who was then the director of the CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine), an organisation that provides religious-education materials for catechists working in state schools. The songs were part of the 'Joy for Living' series, designed for primary aged children (Year 4).
I was very grateful to Fr. Grew for this opportunity, which came along soon after I (with wife Madge and two children) had returned from England to Australia intending, hopefully, to make music my full-time work.
Later, with the permission of CCD I included the five songs on the 'Celebration' album - my first album especially for children.
