LYRICS for
A PLACE TO GROW
(The Limerick School Project)

This is a song about a cool school
That could just be … the Limerick School Project

1. A place of welcome, a place where we are free to grow.
A friendly shelter, we’re very welcome here we know.
A place of learning, we’re learning all the skills we need.
All different subjects, and so much more than write and read
And one-two-three.

2. All kinds of sports here, all sorts of interest in the day.
We’re making music, painting great pictures - that’s not all.
A place of growing, a place of knowing we’re secure.
Easy going, but if we work well we’ll succeed,
That‘s guaranteed.

3. Some ways we’re different, important ways we’re just the same.
We are respectful, respect for others is our aim.
Just like a rainbow, our many faiths and colours glow.
Like a rainbow. We’re shining brightly through the year.
Nothing to fear.

4. All kinds of learning, and as we learn we’re having fun.
We’re making memories of all the friendships we’ve begun.
Just like a rainbow, our many faiths and colours glow.
Like a rainbow, we’re shining brightly through the year.
That’s why were here. A place we know, where we can grow.

The Limerick School Project.

BACKGROUND NOTES:
This song has not previously been published. Here's how I came to write it. During 2004-05 and 2007-08, my wife Madge and I were living in Ireland, her original homeland. During our stay, I was able to earn a living through my music. I received many invitations from National Primary Schools to conduct music workshops and lead children in concerts for parents.

One invitation came from 'The Limerick School Project'. The intriguing name prompted me to write this song especially for the visit. Lyrics were inspired by the school's philosophy, as outlined on material I received in advance.

'A Place to Grow' is quite different to my earlier song 'This Is Our School' which has been adopted by many schools. 'This Is Our School' was originally composed for a 'St. Joseph's School'. But then, in early years after the song's publication, children in other schools would loudly sing their own school name over the original. Since then, I have done many custom recordings to include particular school names in verse two of 'This Is Our School'.
