FULL LYRICS BELOW
L'Arche is French for 'The Ark' and this is a song I wrote for the Australian L 'Arche Communities, whose members have often attended my concerts. They adopted the song and sing the chorus with great gusto.

Here is a little information drawn from Jean Vanier & L 'Arche websites:
In the mid-1960s in Trosly-Breuil, France, Jean Vanier met Raphaël and Philippe, two men with intellectual disabilities. They got to know one another, helped each other, and in their shared home, they built their lives together day by day. Their example drew in others who also wished to share in the simplicity of community life.

Jean Vanier did not 'build' L’Arche, but by opening the doors of their home and telling others about his experience with Raphaël and Philippe, he encouraged others to do the same.

L’Arche grew naturally as a result. Today there are 168 L’Arche communities in 37 countries on 5 continents. There are several communities in Australia.

Jean Vanier (1928-2019) was also the co-founder of Faith & Light, a support network for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

lyrics

ALL ABOARD THE ARK

1. Did you see that Noah bloke on the box the other day?
He gave out a warning: there's a deluge on the way.
He's made a boat.. Huh! that thing will never float!
But he don't seem worried
He's just living day by day.

CHORUS
All aboard the Ark! No first or second class
Everyone is welcome and the tickets are for free
On board the Ark the slow can join the fast
We'd all be laughing if we had such company.

2. Did you see his passengers, that raggy shaggy crew?
All shapes and sizes and skins of every hue.
They've heard the word about a rainbow world-
It don't seem like common sense
But they reckon they'll get through. CHORUS.

3. Did you catch his answer when they asked him to explain
Just how a flood could come without forty days of rain?
"From the tears that fall" he said, "behind a million walls."
Well either he's a prophet
Or he's cracked under the strain! CHORUS.

4. You know the thing about the Ark that really got to me?
Everyone's respected and you don't even need a Degree!
Early or late they like celebrate
And if we get a move on
we'll be there in time for tea. CHORUS
