FILL MY HOUSE
Of all my songs, this is probably the most widely known and sung. I've heard reports of it being sung in the USA, the UK and Ireland, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thursday Island.

I wrote the song when I was nineteen, with the encouragement of Fr. Ted Kennedy, the Sydney University chaplain at that time. I always dedicate this song to Ted (1931-2005), a man of great heart and hospitality.

The photo in the track image shows Ted in front of a group of students staying with him at his family's house in Araluen NSW. I am on the left of the student group. Later the same year I stayed for a few weeks in 'The Lodge' his small chaplain's residence near the gates of St. John's College Camperdown. That house was always full. It was there I wrote Fill My House, The Beatitudes and other 'Songs of Brotherhood' published in 1966 by J. Albert and Son.

From the early 1970s Ted became priest at St. Vincent's Parish Redfern where he welcomed the many Aboriginal people who lived in that area.

The version heard here is previously unpublished. It's a slightly blemished home-recording (circa 1974) in which I sing with John O'Brien, my brother-in-law and close friend.

lyrics

FILL MY HOUSE
Fill my house unto the fullest,
Eat my bread and drink my wine.
The love I bear is held from no-one.
All I own and all I do I give to you.

Take my time unto the fullest,
Find in me the trust you seek.
Take my hands to you outreaching.
All I own and all I do I give to you.

Christ our Lord with love enormous
From the cross His lesson taught:
Love all men (each one) as I have loved you.
All I own and all I do I give to you.

Join with me as one in Christ-love,
May our hearts all beat as one.
May we give ourselves completely.
All I own and all I do I give to you.
All I own and all I do I give to you.
