This song waited over twenty years for publication on my CD 'A Gift of Song'. It is quite a 'big' song with an unusual feel, so a special arrangement was needed for it to work as a recording. The piano of Kevin Hunt provided the last subtle ingredient.

I wrote the song to be sung during a Nuptial Mass. It was a gift for Annette, a guitar student of mine. The priest had instructed that song needed to be Eucharistic - a Communion song.

In writing and recording 'Gather Round This Table', I was trying to convey a sense of deep mystery, a constancy of divine eternal Love and our sharing in that Love.

GATHER ROUND THIS TABLE
Gather round, round this table we share
As our hearts we all bare, and our hunger declare
For love. Love’s the bread that we break.
He who died for our sake
He's the bread that we break.

And it's love - love's command we obey
So ‘forever’ we say though we are but clay.
But in God's love, oh in this we are strong.
We can live it lifelong
We can make it our song.

And in love God embraces all things.
Through winter and spring, love's symbol the ring.
